It is worth noting that at Sweet Seeds®, we do not sell regular seeds. In our store, you will only find feminized photoperiod-dependent and autoflowering seeds, meaning you will exclusively get female cannabis plants.
The data we provide in the technical sheets of our strains regarding the percentages of Indica and Sativa are approximate calculations. We include and calculate these approximate percentages to provide genetic collectors with as much information as possible, allowing them to make an informed selection of seeds and enjoy a satisfying experience.
The percentages are obtained through a simple mathematical calculation. These figures are approximate because, at times, we rely on data assumed to be accurate but that we cannot verify. For instance, if we use a genetic line that was not developed by us as a parental to create a new strain, we base the calculation for the resulting cross on the Indica and Sativa percentages shared by the original developer of that genetic line used as parental.
These percentages are also approximate because any breeding and selection program inevitably involves genetic drift. These drifts may be intentional, as part of the breeding goals, or unintentional, resulting from selective pressure consciously applied by the breeder, who always tends to select the most interesting individuals within a specific population. The percentages would only be exact in cases of free pollination without selective pressure, which does not occur in breeding programs.
It is also important to note that the Indica-Sativa percentages we publish refer to the population as a whole. In other words, they represent the approximate proportion of Indica and Sativa within the gene pool of the entire group of individuals for a determined strain. These percentages can differ when examining a specific individual since many modern cannabis strains are created using hybrids or polyhybrids as parental lines. This means variability may be present among the individuals that constitute the population.
Assuming the data provided by the developers of the external genetics we use in the creation of new strains to be accurate and given that each parental contributes half of its genes to its offspring through sexual reproduction, we can mathematically calculate the Indica-Sativa percentages of the new strains resulting from different crosses and improvement processes.
Let’s use an example to explain how the math is done: if two pure genetics were used as parentals in a cross, one being 100% pure Indica and the other 100% pure Sativa, the resulting hybrid would have a genetic composition of 100%/2 Indica and 100%/2 Sativa. Since each parent contributes half of its genetics to its offspring, the F1 Hybrid would be 50% Indica and 50% Sativa.
If, for instance, we crossed this F1 Hybrid again with the original 100% Indica genetics, the resulting backcross R1 would inherit 50% Indica genetics from the pure Indica parent and 25% Indica genetics from the F1 Hybrid, totaling 75% Indica genetics. On the other hand, it would inherit only 25% Sativa genetics from the F1 Hybrid. This means that the resulting backcross R1 would have 75% Indica and 25% Sativa genetics.
If the R1 backcross were further crossed with the original 100% Indica genetics, following the same calculation logic, the R2 offspring would be 75/2 + 100/2 = 87.5% Indica and only 25/2 = 12.5% Sativa. By continuing successive backcrossing, the R3 generation would have 93.75% Indica and 6.25% Sativa, R4 would have 96.875% Indica and 3.125% Sativa, and so on.

F1 Hybrids are the first-generation offspring resulting from the crossbreeding of two different and stable strains. They combine the desirable traits of "stability" and the highly valued "hybrid vigor." The "hybrid vigor" and "stability" are maximized when the parentals are both highly stable (homozygous) and genetically distinct from one another.
Our F1 Fast Version® strains are the first filial generation (F1) resulting from the cross between a photoperiod-dependent strain and an autoflowering strain. The result of this hybridization between two stable and completely different strains (at least in terms of flowering “type”) is known in genetic terminology as an "F1 Hybrid." F1 Fast Version® strains are hybrid genetics, 100% photoperiod-dependent, and with very fast flowering times.
